Parts of Missouri Could Be Impacted By Dangerous Fog Overnight
Better safe than sorry. If you're planning to travel to or through Missouri during the overnight hours, you need to know that conditions will be right for parts of the state to be impacted by dangerous fog.
Once I saw the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri mention that areas of fog could limit visibility in parts of Missouri to less than a half mile during the overnight hours, I knew it was worth sharing considering how many extra travelers are on the road over the Labor Day Weekend.
Fog brings driving dangers you may not be aware of including what is known as Mandelbaum Effect which means it causes your eyes to focus on something only feet away instead of what might be visible down the road. The National Weather Service also mentions that it can cause problems with depth perception plus the obvious reduced distance.
When you factor in the extra danger of impaired drivers over a holiday weekend, the danger grows exponentially.
As the National Weather Service mentioned, the greatest fog dangers in Missouri overnight will be any roads near rivers and low-lying places. Bridges could be problematic also.
