Weather Channel Just Predicted Missouri’s First Real Snowfall
Let's be honest with one another. No one really knows when Missouri will see its first snowfall of the season. The Weather Channel does not agree as they've just estimated when the Show Me State will see its first snowfall between now and the end of 2024.
My wife had her watch go "ding" with a notification that The Weather Channel now knows when Missouri will get its first snowfall of the season. Oh, really? First, let's define what type of snow they're talking about. Not just a dusting. Not just flakes in the air, but an accumulation of .1 inch or more.
They shared an interesting map that says measurable snow CAN fall as early as October in Missouri since the earliest snowfall on record was October 20, 1916. That's not their prediction for this year though.
When does The Weather Channel think Missouri will get its first real snowfall?
Their prediction is December 1, 2024 as that is the overall average which isn't an awful guess. Yes, Weather Channel, you're making an admittedly more educated guess than I'm capable of, but it's still a GUESS.
There are some things to keep in mind. First, Missouri and the rest of America is predicted to be affected by a La Niña this year which will affect the jet stream and moisture. That could also make Missouri dryer than normal. We shall see.
Is the Weather Channel right? We'll find out in December I suppose.
