A central Illinois man dies in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 72 in Scott County, Illinois at 7:38 a.m. Sunday.

The Illinois State Police reports that 73 year old Howard Smith of Girard, Illinois was eastbound at Milepost 49 west of Winchester.

The van Smith was driving ran off the road, went up an embankment and struck a bridge support.

Smith was taken to Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville where he was pronounced dead.

 

Three are hurt, two seriously, in a two vehicle crash on Highway 36 east of Monroe City at 5:39 p.m. Saturday.

The Highway Patrol reports that a pickup truck, driven by 17 year old Nolan Pennewell of Monroe City, was southbound, attempting to cross 36 and struck the tow unit of an eastbound semi, driven by 59 year old Michael Pribble of Coello, Illinois.

Pribble’s semi continued eastbound until the trailer lost its axles and the unit overturned.

Both Pennewell and Pribble were taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. A passenger in the Pribble semi, his wife, 56 year old Deborah Durando, also of Coello, was taken to Hannibal Regional for treatment of minor injuries.
