A public hearing on natural gas rates is this evening in Hannibal.A number of natural gas consumers in Missouri will suffer a hit in the wallet if Liberty Utilities gets its way. Customers have a chance to speak out on a proposed rate increase totaling nearly $6.3 million. Five public hearings are planned around the state—one of those is coming to Hannibal.

Public Service commissioners will hear comments Tuesday, July 1 at 6 p.m. at the Early Childhood Center on Veterans Road. Liberty Utilities proposes to raise the monthly delivery charge in northeast Missouri from $22.68 to $32.87. The Commodity Rate would increase from 11 ½ cents a cubic foot to just over 14 1/2 cents. The $3.16 Infrastructure Surcharge would be eliminated. The net effect would see gas bills increase an average of $9 a month.

Those unable to attend a hearing can go to psc.mo.gov for alternate ways to submit comments.
