MODOT is working with a local citizens advisory group on safety improvements at US 61 and Ralls County Route A.

Officials say some short term safety improvements at the median crossover are being made and design work will start soon on a more permanent solution. Area Engineer Brien Untiedt says the changes target the cause of recent traffic crashes in that area.

Short term improvements being contemplated may nclude rumble strips on Route A and enhancements to stop signs and yield signs. Work is also planned on the design of the median U-turn and offset turn lanes over the next several months.

A public meeting is planned this fall to show what will be done to make the US 61/Route A intersection safer.
