I think it's safe to say that many perceive Wisconsin as a safe place to live overall and for the most part that's certainly true. There is one city though that now has the notorious 'honor' of officially being one of the 10 most dangerous cities in America. I'll give you two guesses where that is, but you'll only need one.

Data Pandas is one of the many statistical sites that shows Wisconsin is one of the safest states in America coming in at #13. If you isolate the largest city in the state, you'll find a completely different picture. In a new ranking by Best Diplomats based on the most recent FBI violent crime data, you'll see Milwaukee is now the 9th most dangerous city in America.

The most recent Milwaukee crime numbers are staggering with the data showing "9,600 violent offenses and 23,500 property offenses" in a single year (2021). It also shows the city's 2023 crime data reveals "homicides increased by 11% in 2022". Talk about trending the wrong way.

I will credit the Milwaukee Police Department being so transparent with near real-time tracking of crime that's viewable by anyone anytime. Milwaukee's "Blueprint for Peace" seeks to reduce if not eliminate violence in the city. Time will tell if it's successful and the city will lost this infamous new national title of being one of the nation's most dangerous.
