The Marion County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn the public of a phone scam that has been brought to their attention.

In a press release, Deputy Brock Decker reports the sheriff’s office was informed Friday that a Marion County resident got a phone call from someone claiming to be a family member in jail, requesting money for attorney fees and bond. The phone was traced to the Chicago area.

Decker says residents should always be cautious when releasing information over the phone. If a similar incident happens to you, or if you have questions, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
