The former owner of a Jefferson City business was sentenced to seven years in prison for starting a fire at the business.

The Jefferson City News-Tribune reports Kurt Steidley, of Knob Noster, was sentenced Wednesday for second-degree arson. The fire was started New Year's Day 2011 at the Sporting Goods warehouse.

Steidley was found guilty for the second time in September. A 2014 verdict was set aside after a judge determined he should not have allowed some evidence in the first trial.

Steidley will remain free during the appeals process.
