An eastern Missouri woman is jailed on $50,000 bond after allegedly slashing a sheriff's deputy with a knife.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Lincoln County deputy suffered a cut on his left forearm but escaped serious injury.

Authorities were called Saturday night to reports of a woman walking down the middle of Highway 47. Authorities say the deputy tried to direct the woman, 38-year-old Angela Marie Marciniak of Winfield, to safety.

The deputy grabbed her to pull her out of traffic and she pulled out a knife. The deputy's arm was cut and she allegedly tried to cut his torso, but his bulletproof vest provided protection.

Authorities say Marciniak tried to slash the deputy several more times before dropping the knife. Police suspect heroin use.
