Homeless Hannibal Man Charged With Assault

A homeless Hannibal man has been charged in connection with an early Saturday morning incident.

Hannibal Police were called to a report of a disturbance in the 700 block of Walnut about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The initial investigation indicated a 58 year old Hannibal woman had been assaulted by 21 year old Justin DeWitt while he was a passenger in her car.

The woman received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

DeWitt was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail.

A criminal warrant was filed Sunday in the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County, charging DeWitt with one count each of second degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

DeWitt remains in the Marion County Jail on $10,000 case or surety bond.
