Lewis County Sheriffs Warns of Social Security Phone Scam
Lewis County Sheriff David Parrish’s office has received several calls from county residents, indicating they have gotten calls from scammers saying their Social Security accounts have been tampered with in some way.
Sheriff Parrish says the scammers then try to get personal and financial information from the resident. They are also able to make it appear that the call is coming from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
If you have received this type of call and have given any personal information to scammers, contact the sheriff’s office at 573-767-5287.
You should also contact your financial institution and the Social Security Administration.
And, you are reminded that you should never give out any personal or financial information over the phone or on line unless you have initiated the contact.
