Lafayette Takes Control Late, Beats the Hannibal Hoots 7-1
The Lafayette Aviators took control late on their way to a 7-1 win over the Hannibal Hoots at Clemens Field Wednesday night.
The visitors opened the scoring with two in the fourth on a walk, a double, an error and a force out.
Hannibal's only run of the night came in the fifth, when right fielder Aaron Goecks reached on an infield hit, went to third on a throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of catcher Sam Nozicka.
Then, the Aviators scored a run in the sixth, one more in the eighth and put the game away with three in the ninth on two RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly.
Hoots' starting pitcher Dylan Dodd took the loss.
The loss drops Hannibal to 4-9, while Lafayette improves to 3-10.
The Quincy Gems are at Clemens Field Thursday night at 6:35 p.m.
