The Most Confusing Road in Illinois? 5 Speed Limit Shifts
You don't have to be a mathematician to drive on this Illinois road, but it might be beneficial if you are. There is one stretch of road that cannot make up its mind when it comes to speed limits as it changes its mind no less than 5 different times.
I have spent most of my life in the Quincy, Illinois area and Broadway never has made much sense to me. Even after decades of navigating it, I am constantly befuddled by the myriad of speed limit variations that happen all in the span of just a few miles.
If you're not familiar with Quincy, let's begin our tour of speed limit insanity by starting on the western part of town near the river. This is the most common speed limit you'll see along the intersections with the lower number streets.
30 mph
You'll think that you'll need to stick with 30 mph, but you'd be wrong. By the time you reach the Quincy Town Center area, you'll meet a new number.
35 mph
After you pass across 36th Street, you can practically hear the jet engines begin to rev up as the next speed limit change happens.
40 mph
Once you get past Walmart, the fun really begins as another number appears on the side of the road.
45 mph
Of all the Quincy, Illinois speed limits, this is the one you'll spend the least time with as everyone will soon think they're driving a Bugatti when the final speed limit change on Broadway hits.
65 mph
I don't recall any other road in America that I've driven that changes its mind so many times when it comes to speed limits. I suppose that's something to be proud of for a city. Well played, Quincy.
