A case could be made that the most famous Illinois town in movie history is one that never really existed. I am referring to Haddonfield, Illinois, the hometown of Michael Myers and the setting for one of the scariest movies ever. You can see what Haddonfield, Illinois looks like today where the real place exists.

Thanks to IMDb, the exact street addresses of all the famous scenes in John Carpenter's classic "Halloween" are public record. Let's begin.

The YouTube channel WhiteNoise was able to get a quick tour of the real Doyle house when it went on the market not that long ago.

I'll confess that I didn't know there was no real Haddonfield, Illinois when Halloween first came out in 1978. I was only 12, but it sure looked like Illinois to me. I remember the stories about people having heart attacks at early screenings before it officially arrived in theaters which only increased the hype. Incredibly, it lived up to the marketing push.

One final thought. I really wish there had never been any sequels to the original Halloween. It was a classic and the ones that followed didn't really add anything to the mythos. Haddonfield, Illinois forever.
