Let's hope this doesn't happen, but there's a real chance that 870 Illinois workers may be about to lose their job and not know it - yet.

It's no secret that 2024 has been a rough year for many businesses and that definitely includes True Value. There are reports that the company may be saved (somewhat) by a buy out, but that's not a certainty yet. This disturbing turn of the True Value saga was reported today by the Chicago Tribune. They are reporting that True Value says if the buyout by competitor Do It Best does not go through, 870 Illinois workers will likely lose their jobs.

The warning about Illinois worker layoffs comes from True Value as a notification of possible actions as they work their way through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. There's no timetable on when True Value might complete the buyout from Do It Best, but the report says there are efforts between some workers who are represented by a union to have the new employers keep the Illinois workers on board if and when the sale completes.

As this is a developing story, it will be updated once new information is provided about how True Value workers in Illinois will be affected by this ongoing process.
