Heatwave Turns Tragic—First Missouri Death Reported
This was what we have feared would happen as soon as we learned that this heatwave was coming. After days of what feels like unrelenting heat, the first death has been confirmed due to the weather and it happened in Missouri.
I was first alerted to the fact that there was a heat-related fatality in Missouri from The Weather Channel and a TV station from Texas of all places.
I found many more details reported by KSDK in St. Louis who said that the Missouri fatality happened in St. Ann where a 55-year-old woman named Shauna Thomas was found deceased in her apartment. Their report says that she had no electricity or water for at least 3 days before she perished.
How long will the dangerous heat continue in Missouri?
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri will continue to experience deadly heat at least through Sunday, June 29, 2025.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has a helpful site showing where cooling centers are located around the state. You can also text 211 for that information.
The state of Missouri says that an individual can call 911 if you believe that you or someone you know is suffering from hypothermia. Best to stay in touch with vulnerable friends and family members during heatwaves like this before a tragedy like this happens.
