The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating an officer involved shooting in Macon County early Tuesday morning.

Authorities report a Macon County Deputy made a traffic stop on a pickup truck in Bevier shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

During the stop, a male subject reportedly exited the passenger side of the truck and aimed a rifle toward the deputy.

The deputy fired on the subject, striking him at least twice.

Other deputies arrived at the scene, securing the driver of the truck and the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in Columbia. The deputy was not hurt.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Department asked the Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control to handle the investigation.
