The National Weather Service issues a Heat Advisory for northeast Missouri and western Illinois through Sunday night.

Officially, the advisory runs through 7 p.m. Sunday. Forecasters say the combination of heat and humidity will reach dangerous levels through the weekend.

High temperatures are expected to get to 94 Friday, 95 Saturday and 96 Sunday. Coupled with elevated humidity levels, the heat index values will reach as high as 105 degrees.

With the hot weather comes the risk of heat-related stress and illness. Those most at risk include the very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning and who take part in strenuous outdoor activities.

Motorists are also reminded that car interior temps can reach lethal levels in a matter of minutes. Please, DO NOT leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle ... not even for a minute!
