Hannibal Police are investigating two reports of domestic animals injured by spring loaded leg traps. Police say one incident occurred near Bowling Avenue, the other occurred in the 900 block of Paris.

Police say they responded to two incidents during 2013 involving spring loaded traps in which domestic animals sustained injuries resulting in limbs being amputated.

Police warn that these traps are illegal within Hannibal city limits and that the traps can also pose a hazard for adults and children. Hannibal city ordinances forbid use of traps within city limits except by Animal Control officers without permission of the Chief of Police.
