A shooting investigation is underway for Hannibal Police.
Officers were called to the Hannibal Regional Hospital emergency room at 3:03 Tuesday morning on a report of a gunshot wound. When officers arrived… the victim—a 17 year old Hannibal man said he had been in an argument with 19 year old Seth Emerson of Hannibal when the victim’s dog became aggressive with Emerson. Police reports state that Emerson retrieved a hand gun and attempted to scare the dog.
While confronting the dog… police say the gun fired hitting the victim’s leg and the dog. Officers recovered the weapon at the scene in the 3100 block of Rendlen. Emerson turned himself in to police. He was arrested for domestic assault… unlawful use of a weapon…animal abuse and armed criminal action. Emerson was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail. The victim was treated and released. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
