A verbal threat against a Division of Family Services investigator leads to charges for a Hannibal Man.
Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton says James Smith is charged with assault and tampering after he allegedly threatened the life of an investigator late Wednesday afternoon. Clayton says that even though the law allows only misdemeanor charges to be filed, he will treat this as a felony case. Clayton says a threat of serious harm against a person employed to protect at risk children in our community will not be tolerated. Smith is held in the Marion County Jail on $10,000 cash only bond.
