A Hannibal man is taken into custody Tuesday on assault charges.

According to Hannibal Police, officers responded to a report of an assault in progress at a business in the 300 block of Highway 61 South Tuesday afternoon.

The victim told officers that she had tried to speak to another employee of the business when he became angry, threw her to the ground and hit her.

The man, identified as 38 year old Jason Cunningham, then allegedly tried to drag the victim into a creek bed next to the business.

Cunningham was arrested and charged with one count each of second degree and third degree assault. He was taken to the Marion County Jail on a 24 hour hold.

The victim suffered minor injuries, but did not seek medical treatment.
