A Hannibal man is in custody following an assault on a police officer early Sunday morning.

Hannibal Police were called to the 100 block of North Main at 12:31 a-m for a fight in progress. During the investigation,a police officer was struck in the back of the head by what is believed to be a glass bottle. The officer was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment. Police arrested 36 year old James Brothers following the incident. A warrant was issued Sunday charging Brothers with assault of a special victim and resisting arrest. Bond for Brothers is set at 50-thousand dollars cash only.
Highway Patrol troopers and the Marion County Sheriff’s department assisted along with the Marion County Ambulance District.
