Hannibal Hoots’ Streak Ends, Lose 12-5 to Danville
The Hannibal Hoots' ten-game winning streak had begun with a win in Danville on June 26, and it ended with a 12-5 loss to the Dans Thursday night at Clemens Field.
Danville started fast, scoring four in the first inning, three of which came on a three-run homer by first baseman Damian Pierce.
Hannibal scored a run of their own in the first, but the Dans added two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.
The Hoots mounted a rally in the fifth on a three-run homer by designated hitter Dylan Dodd and an RBI double by pinch hitter Brady West, closing the gap to 8-5.
But, Danville spent the rest of the night widening their lead, scoring single runs in each of the last four innings to win 12-5.
Hannibal starter Victor Gotay was the victim of that four-run first inning and took the loss.
The Hoots' record drops to 14-18, while the Dans improve to 17-15.
Hannibal is at Quincy at 6:35 p.m. Friday. The Hoots return home to face the Kokomo Jackrabbits at 6:35 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday.
