The 2020 Fourth of July weekend was a much safer one on Missouri Highways and waterways than a year ago.

The State Highway Patrol reports troopers worked 294 traffic crashes, resulting in 107 injuries and just five fatalities.

That compares with over 1,100 crashes, 457 injuries and fifteen fatalities on the state’s roadways in 2019.

There were also nine boating crashes this past weekend, with four injuries and no fatalities. There was one drowning.

None of this year’s fatalities took place in northeast Missouri.

The Fourth of July reporting period ran from 6 p.m. Thursday through midnight Sunday.
