A proposed hog confinement project in Lewis County has some residents concerned. Residents have questions about how close the facility would be to Canton’s water treatment facility. Expedition Acres LLC plans an 8000-hog facility north of Canton. Canton Mayor Jared Phillips says the council voted to send a letter to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to inform the department about the location of the city’s wells, which are located about three to five miles from the proposed site. Phillips says some residents are concerned about what would happen in case of a spill. Phillips expects that letter to be sent out within the next two weeks. He says the letter will also ask questions about the hog confinement proposal.
