Concealed Pistol Carrier Helps Thwart Hannibal Vehicle Burglary
A Hannibal man is in custody after he was seen taking items from a parked vehicle in the 4000 block of Cheyenne in Hannibal early Sunday afternoon.
Hannibal Police say residents of that block returned home shortly after noon to find a man removing items from their other vehicle. Police say 22-year-old Jason Charlton attempted to leave the area on foot but was confronted by the residents. The police report indicates that Charlton pulled a knife and threatened harm. One of the home owners then drew a concealed pistol and Charlton walked away after seeing the weapon. Hannibal Police say Charlton was located a short time later in a wooded area and taken into custody. Officers also located several items that had been removed from the homeowner’s property.
Charlton faces second degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, second degree assault and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.
Charlton was taken to the Marion County Jail.
