A Clarence man has been arrested for setting his house on fire Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to a residential fire on West Walnut in Clarence about 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Clarence Fire Chief Bill Hall said the home was engulfed in flames within minutes, and was a total loss.

Clarence Police report that the man lived in the home, 55 year old George Gale, told them he started the fire, gathering several items into the center of the home, dousing them with lighter fluid and setting them on fire.

Gale then got out of the house through a window with a duffel bag and watched his home burn.

Gale was arrested for second degree arson.
