Chicago Cab Driver Fatally Shot During Robbery
Authorities say a 51-year-old Chicago cab driver has died after he was shot in the chest during a robbery in the North Lawndale neighborhood.
A spokeswoman with the Chicago Police Department says the driver — identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Chinedu Madu of Chicago — was shot Thursday night and died later at a local hospital.
A dispatcher for Chicago Carriage Cab tells the Chicago Sun-Times that Madu had been with the South Side-based company for some time. She says the company has more than 100 drivers.
The dispatcher says detectives have been speaking with the cab company but couldn't share further details.
