Bond Reduction Sought by 2nd Degree Murder Suspect
A man accused of killing his son in Pike County Missouri wants his bail reduced.
Forty-five-year-old Michael Lee Phillips of Saint John is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He’s accused of shooting 22-year-old Jeffrey Chisholm once in the chest on August 31. The incident occurred at a cabin on County Road 52 just off of Highway 61 between Bowling Green and Frankford.
Witnesses say the victim had been fighting with his father and other family members.
In a probable cause statement, Phillips allegedly told authorities that he had no other choice but to shoot his son.
Phillips has asked for a public defender and on Wednesday sought a reduction in his 200 thousand dollar cash-only bond. A hearing is set for September 25.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
