A former sheriff has been tapped to serve as interim sheriff in Knox County.

County commissioners last week named former sheriff Allen Gudehus to serve as sheriff until the special election February 26th.

Gudehus served as sheriff from 2013 until 2016, when he lost to former sheriff Robert Becker.

Becker resigned in December after pleading guilty to domestic assault and sexual abuse charges.

Gudehus has announced that he is seeking a spot on the Democratic ballot in the special election.

The winning candidate in February will serve until the next general election in 2020.

Along with previously serving as sheriff, Gudehus served as Knox County Treasurer for 18 years.
