A summer-long construction project impacting one of Hannibal’s busiest thoroughfares began Monday.

Work has officially begun on the resurfacing of McMasters Avenue/U.S. 61, from Highway 168 to Warren Barrett Drive.

According to Brian Haeffner of MODOT, the first couple of weeks of the project will consist of prep work, making spot repairs of existing pavement.

The first significant disruption of traffic comes later this month when work begins on the upgrading of sidewalks to ADA standards from I-72 to Stardust Drive.

MODOT officials expect work to be completed by mid-October.
