What’s Missouri’s Biggest ‘Boomtown’? 7x Growth from 20 Years Ago

It didn't used to be Missouri's 'boomtown'. Not even close to it. I remember what used to be a tiny Missouri place that is now one of the fastest growing towns in America and that growth doesn't look like it's gonna slow down any time soon.

As we get ready to start another new year, it's natural to want to look back and see how the previous one went. In this case, we can get a 10,000 foot view that goes back decades to tell the story of what has just been referred to as Missouri's biggest 'boomtown'.

Go Banking Rates named this Missouri place the official boomtown and there's good reason for it. What town are the referring to? None other than good ole Wentzville.

When I was a kid (yes it was a long time ago I admit), Wentzville had a population of 2,000 to 3,000 people and it was mainly an agricultural town. Over the past 20 years especially, Wentzville has exploded to a population of more than 46,000. World Population Review has a graph showing what that growth looks like.

This is the older part of Wentzville which is how I remember it from 40 to 50 years ago. Back then it was just a stop for snacks going to and from St. Louis Cardinals games.

If you're not familiar with the area, Wentzville is now filled with many who commute back and forth from St. Louis. The old farm town now is very metro looking.

The population growth of Wentzville has now slowed to around a few percentage points per year, but don't doubt that it's still getting bigger. I don't expect that trend to change for quite some time.
