According to Des Moines County, Iowa Sheriff Kevin Glendening, deputies made a traffic stop on Highway 61 just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The deputy smelled marijuana inside the vehicle and asked the passenger, 38 year old Mark Anthony Smith of Quincy, to exit the vehicle. The driver, 41 year old Amanda Jo Thompson, also of Quincy, then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Deputies were notified of a traffic crash a short distance away and Thompson was taken into custody.

Smith had marijuana on his person, and more pot was found in the vehicle.

Both Thompson and Smith are charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Thompson is also charged with interference with official acts, no valid driver’s license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and window tint.

Both are lodged in the Des Moines County Jail.
