Two More Deaths in Legionnaires’ Outbreak at Illinois Veterans Home

Two more deaths have been attributed to the outbreak of Legionnaries’ Disease at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy.

Officials with the Adams County Health Department announced that one of the deaths occurred Wednesday, while the other death happened earlier but tests have just confirmed that Legionnaires' Disease was the cause.

That brings the total number of deaths to nine, with 53 cases of the disease confirmed at the vets home.

Officials are in the midst of a shock chlorination of the veterans’ home’s water system to get rid of possible sources of the legionella bacteria.
