For Veterans’ Day, How About A Trip to the All Wars Museum?
With Veterans' Day almost here, there's a local attraction I'm betting you haven't been to, or haven't been for a long time.
The All Wars Museum has been in operation on the grounds of the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy for about 30 years.
The stated mission of the museum is, "to preserve and exhibit artifacts and equipment relevant to the history of America's military engagements."
The museum is jam-packed with all manner of pictures, uniforms, patches, diaramas, vehicles, even a couple of cannons.
The museum has over 5,000 artifacts from every military engagement in our nation's history, from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terror.
If you have military memorabilia that you'd like to donate to the museum, they are looking for everything from mannequins and music stands to World War II era postcards and old style baseball mitts.
The All Wars Museum is open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The museum season runs from March 1 through the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
