On Sunday night (June 23) an officer of the Hannibal Police Department made contact with several subjects in the 200 block of S. Griffith in regards to a curfew violation. During the course of the contact, one juvenile subject was taken into custody for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Two adult subjects 20 year old Benjamin E. DeLaPorte and 18 year old Zachariah L. Ramirez, both of Hannibal, were taken into custody for Distribution of a Controlled Substance. DeLaPorte and Ramirez were placed on 24 hour holds at the Marion County Jail. The juvenile suspect was released to a parent. On June 24th the Circuit Court of Marion County issued a warrant on DeLaPorte charging him with Distribution, Delivery or Sale of a Controlled Substance. Bond was set at $100,000.00. DeLaPorte remains in the Marion County Jail. No warrant has been issued on Ramirez at this time.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
