Trial Set for Illinois Woman Accused of Drowning Daughter
The trial of a southern Illinois woman accused of drowning her 8-year-old daughter is scheduled for next spring.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that a Franklin County judge on Thursday scheduled the proceedings for 31-year-old Mary Zumwalt-Jophlin to begin May 6.
Jophlin is accused of killing Alexus Smothers in July 2011 at their West Frankfort home and then hiding the girl's body in a basement crawlspace.
She's pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, concealment of a homicide and obstructing justice.
She remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail.
