Trial Date for Melton Child Abuse Case

A July trial date is set for a Hannibal man accused of child abuse.

In a hearing Thursday in Shelby County Circuit Court, the child abuse trial of 24 year old Eugene Melton was set for July 7th.

Melton is alleged to have thrown a three-month-old child across a room, shook him and bit him to see if he could feel pain. The infant suffered a broken femur, bite marks and a brain bleed. Melton has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Melton is in the Marion County Jail on $100,000 cash only bond.
