One of the Amtrak trains that serves the Tri-State area, The Southwest Chief, was involved in a derailment today west of Ft. Dodge, Kansas shortly after midnight central time.
Amtrak and the Illinois Department of Transportation say they have reached an agreement to maintain existing service on state-supported routes while reducing costs.
Illinois transportation officials say that work to increase rail speeds to 110 mph will mean service changes for some Amtrak trains between Chicago and St. Louis.
