Illinois State Police plan additional enforcement through the rest of May in Adams County.
The Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols will focus on driving under the influence, seat belt and child restraint use, speeding and distracted driving. Troopers say impaired driving is a factor in over 30 percent of Illinois traffic deaths. Speeding is a factor in nearly 35 percent of fatal crashes and nearly 50 percent of vehicle occupants killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts. The extra enforcement is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
