A Shelbina teen is dead as the result of an apparent accidental shooting early Wednesday morning.

According to Shelbina Police Chief Jerry Fenton, the shooting took place around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a residence in Shelbina.

Fenton says the victim, identified as 17 year old Zachery Stokes, was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Macon where he died.

Fenton identified the shooter only as a 23 year old man. He said the man was not arrested, but that charges are possible.

The initial investigation indicated that the weapon used in the shooting was a 50 caliber muzzle loader and that no drugs or alcohol were involved.
