Senator Dick Durbin says the Army Corps of Engineers will see if the flow of the Missouri River can be tweaked to help keep the Mississippi safely navigable.

But a top official of the Corps has told Durbin and other federal lawmakers the agency can't legally reverse its decision to reduce flows in the Missouri. Officials are concerned about the effect of low water levels on Mississippi River commerce.
