There is a war breaking out in Missouri over the state's water, which side are you on? Here are the details you need to know...
According to an article from KSDK, lawmakers in Missouri are taking the initial steps necessary to make sure no one can have the water that is in Missouri except Missourians.
In the article, they say "Missouri is home to a host of reliable freshwater systems. But lawmakers fear as other states struggle with a drier future, they might look to Missouri as a solution." The article goes on to mention if the bill passes, you could still take water from Missouri in the future BUT it would need to be approved by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Should Missouri pass this law?
My gut tells me yes. Missouri lawmakers are right to think ahead and make sure they protect their citizens first. Illinois has the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River, it will be fine, but states like Arizona, California, Colorado, and others could face a freshwater crisis in the coming years. According to the USA Today, there have been proposals to drain the Great Lakes in order to help out western states. The water crisis is real, it is happening quickly, and taking the steps to protect your state's resources is important, I hope the lawmakers in Missouri pass this law. Or do you feel the state should share and give water to the states that need it?
