Yes, you.
It’s not as hard as you think and the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department is helping with their nine week long  Couch To Cannibal program. Mary Lynne Richards says the training program starts with you walking or running a little less than a mile and gradually building up over the nine weeks from May 5th through June 30th.

They’ll also offer a training program for runners who want to increase from a 5K to a 10K race.

You don’t know what you’re capable of until you try and the Couch To Cannibal Program gives you a way to start and some very good direction on a training routine free of charge.

I run. But, I am not what you’d picture as the classic distance runner. I’m a big guy at 6’4” and just under 240 pounds. I’m not fast after the first ten yards or so.  I got more serious about adding distance in my mid 40’s.  I’ve been running the Cannibal 5k  since ’06. After completing a few 5k’s, I moved on to a couple 10k’s in the Bridge the Gap in Quincy and will be running my third half marathon in this year’s Bridge the Gap next month.  For me, it’s not about speed, it’s completing the race. (and being a bit faster than the last time..)

There is plenty of time between now and July 7th. See you on South Main bright and early that morning.
