(Hannibal, Mo)—Two major improvements to the Hannibal’s Nipper Marina are now complete, according to Hannibal Parks and Recreation Director Andy Dorian.  First came dredging to remove heavy sediment buildup:

We've dredged 5,000 cubic yards. It's been done for...about two weeks now.

The next step was to reconstruct the boat ramp to make it smoother and safer.

We took out about a 40 x 40 section that had been damaged over the years. Some of it was the old pavers. Most of it was just chunks of concrete and asphalt that just had become a liability for boats and for pedestrians. Plus it was, quite frankly, embarrassing to look at. So, it's completely re-poured.

The boat ramp was completed late last week; just hours before the lower part began to disappear under the rising river level.  The cost of both projects totaled over $93,000.
