A traffic stop by Hannibal Police for speeding results in the arrest of a Quincy man on drug charges.

Just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, HPD attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Paris Avenue.

After trying to elude police and a brief foot pursuit, 34 year old Michael Thomas of Quincy was taken into custody in the 900 block of Center.

Officers observed that Thomas was intoxicated and appeared to be suffering from a drug overdose. Thomas was in possession of what appeared to be meth and fentanyl.

Thomas was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment.

Thomas has been charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance. He also has a felony warrant from Scott County, Iowa for carrying weapons, control of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance.

Thomas is in the Marion County Jail on $50,000 bond.
