Quincy firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 511 North 15th about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Chief Joe Henning, a piece of furniture that was outside caught fire and the flames spread to the house.

At one point, there were flames in the basement and attic levels of the structure.

There was heavy fire damage to the outside of the apartment. That apartment was vacant, so there were no injuries.

There was no damage to neighboring apartments.

The fire was out by 6:30 p.m. but crews stayed on the scene through the evening.

How the fire started is still under investigation.
