Quincy Notre Dame has picked a hall of famer to be its next boys basketball coach.

Officials at QND Friday announced that Tom Shields will take over the coaching reins next season.

Shields is best known for leading Providence St. Mel to a state championship in 1985. He also coached Hales Franciscan to the state title game in 1993.

Shields has won over 400 games in his coaching career and is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

He replaces Bob Sheffield, who resigned in February in his second season as coach of the Raiders.
