Preliminary Hearing Wednesday for Ashburn Burglary Suspect

A preliminary hearing is March 19 for a Pike County burglary suspect accused of stealing food and other items from the victim’s home near Ashburn.

31-year-old Mark Helms of Bowling Green is charged with burglary, theft and unlawful possession of a firearm.

A rural Ashburn resident reported the incident on February First after being awakened when a burglar turned on a bedroom light.  Deputies found food missing from the victim’s refrigerator. Jewelry, money, a firearm and other items also were taken.

Authorities said they arrested Helms as he walked through a field near the intersection of Highway 79 and Pike County Road 117 south of Ashburn.
